As a Great Highland Bagpiper, David commenced his training at the age of eight years old in South Australia and after initially learning with tutors at the City of Noarlunga Pipe Band (Okaparinga City) he commenced his formal training as a piper with James Smith and Brett Tidswell (City of Adelaide Pipe Band).
David appeared in parades, competitions and memorial services all over South Australia until he left for the UK at the age of eighteen. Whilst there, he piped at many public and private functions throughout the UK and performed briefly with the Pride of Murray (London). This association took him to the Artois Liberte celebrations in France and to also march down Piccadilly, Central London. Upon returning to Australia, David joined the Castlemaine Highland Pipe Band and has recently become their 11th Pipe Major, continuing the 60-year legacy of the band in Central Victoria. In June 2017, David piped for the memorial of Flight Lieutenant John Napier Bell in Farina, South Australia (near Lake Eyre) who was shot down over France in WWII.
David wears the original No. 1 Kit and the Mackintosh tartan from Clan Chattan.
